How the recolour works

Whatever is in your image is really just a shape, and its edges fade softly so they do not look jagged. This tool takes that shape and paints the whole thing in the colour you choose, keeping those soft edges intact. For most files the shape comes straight from transparency: in a cut-out PNG the see-through background tells us exactly where the subject is, so it does not matter what colour the subject started as, a black logo, a blue icon or a photographed object cut out on transparency all recolour cleanly to the flat colour you pick. When an image has no transparency, a plain black or white logo on a solid background, it reads the shape from how dark or light each pixel is instead. It picks the right approach automatically, and you can nudge it if it looks off. Either way you get back a clean PNG with a transparent background, or a solid colour behind it if you prefer.

It runs entirely in your browser. The image is read, recoloured and saved by your own device, so nothing is uploaded, there is no account and there is no watermark. Change the colour as many times as you like and watch it update live, and hold the compare button to check it against the original.

When it works, and when it will not

This turns a subject into one flat colour, which is exactly what you want for logos, icons, symbols and cut-out graphics. What it cannot do is invent a shape that is not there: if your image is a photograph with the subject still sitting on its background, there is nothing separating the subject from everything else, so it cannot isolate just the thing you mean. For that you first need the background removed. It also keeps things flat by design, so it will not preserve shading or multiple colours within the subject. And if you have the original as a proper vector file (an SVG, EPS or AI), recolouring it there keeps it razor sharp at any size, which is always the better route when the artwork exists.
